The little town of Apalachicola is only a short 9 miles away.... traveling the approximate 8 miles of the 9 by bridge. With it's quaint historical homes, wonderful restaurants, and shopping (available by car or foot), Apalachiola was named one of twelve "Distinctive Destinations in 2008" by The National Trust for Historic Preservation (see article).

There's a gentle magic about the Island. Watching the gorgeous sunrise, sunsets, listening to the pounding of the surf or watching the fog roll in, brings an inner peace that is all too rare for most of us. With approximately 1,000 permanent residents, St. George Island is never crowded, even during the peak summer season. While relaxing, the island lacks nothing in family vacation activities. The area has lots of shops and restaurants, 2 hardware stores, a CVS pharmacy, Piggly Wiggly and IGA grocery stores, ATMS, and Marinas.
